What are coloured acrylic sheets?
They are acrylic (PMMA) sheets made in a colour and finish rather than plain clear. The colour runs right through the sheet, so cut edges and drilled holes stay the same shade. Coloured acrylic keeps all the strengths of clear acrylic, being rigid, weather-resistant and easy to fabricate, and adds colour and surface effect for design work.

What are coloured acrylic sheets used for?

How do you choose the right colour and finish?
Start with the job, then the light. For bright, eye-catching signage, gloss and fluorescent hold colour best. For a premium, glare-free look, matt is the choice, and it hides fingerprints on handled surfaces (see matt vs gloss acrylic). If the sheet will be lit from behind, opal acrylic spreads the light evenly and hides bulbs and LED strips. For reflective effects or a safe mirror, mirror acrylic gives the look without the breakage risk of glass. Cast or extruded coloured acrylic?
Most coloured and effect acrylics are cast, which suits laser cutting and gives a cleaner polished edge. Extruded acrylic is more common in clear sheet and costs a little less, but engraves frosty and comes in fewer colours. If you plan to laser-cut, choose cast.
