5mm Clear Polycarbonate
From £0.18
Polycarbonate is a high-performance, amorphous thermoplastic polymer renowned for exceptional impact resistance, being up to 250 times stronger than glass while remaining transparent and lightweight. It is widely used for durable, heat-resistant, and versatile applications, ranging from protective safety gear to automotive components and construction.
Product description
With a UK class one fire rating, polycarbonate sheets are a smart choice for a range of installations that require a material that is resistant to high temperatures.
It is easy to keep clean and hygienic too, only requiring warm soapy water to wash it without the need for chemical cleaning, making it ideal for use in kitchens or bathrooms for splashbacks and sneeze screens.
Thanks to its impact resistance and strength it makes a great alternative to glass. It offers excellent optical transparency alongside added benefits that glass does not provide like shatterproof qualities and light weight.
A polycarbonate sheet is also waterproof, weather resistant and UV stable for outdoor installations that will receive impact from the weather. It can also be machined and fabricated to fit your exact requirements.
Properties
- Superior Strength: Polycarbonate is virtually unbreakable, offering extreme impact resistance for safety applications.
- Transparency: It offers high light transmission, similar to glass.
- Lightweight: It is much lighter than glass, making it easier to manage and install.
- Heat and Chemical Resistance: It maintains stability under high temperatures and is self-extinguishing. It typically carries a B1 or V-2 fire rating, meaning it is difficult to ignite and does not promote flame spread.
- Versatility: As a thermoplastic, it is easily moulded, shaped, and thermoformed.
Usage
- Safety and Security: Protective screens, safety goggles, face shields, and armoured, “bulletproof” glass.
- Construction: Roofing, skylights, and greenhouse panels.
- Automotive and Aerospace: Headlamp lenses, dashboards, and aircraft components.
- Electronics: Components for smartphones, laptops, and, historically, CDs/DVDs.
