3mm Cool White Acrylic 44% light transmission 040
From £0.12
Opal 3mm acrylic sheet with 44% light transmission — a translucent white panel that diffuses light evenly for backlit signage, LED panels, and privacy glazing. Eliminates LED hotspots. Impact-resistant, UV-stable, and half the weight of glass.
Product description
This 3mm opal acrylic sheet provides a smooth, translucent white finish that diffuses light evenly across the full panel surface. With 44% light transmission, it is specifically suited to backlit signage, LED light diffuser panels, and privacy glazing where uniform illumination and a clean aesthetic are required.
The opal formulation scatters light to eliminate visible hotspots from individual LEDs, producing a consistent, professional glow across the entire sheet. When unlit, the surface displays a soft opal white tone. Up to 17 times more impact-resistant than glass and approximately half the weight, it is a safer, more practical material for ceiling panels, lightbox fascias, and suspended lighting installations.
Widely used in illuminated signage, architectural lighting, lightbox displays, greenhouse glazing, and bathroom privacy panels. The 3mm opal sheet machines cleanly with laser cutters, CNC routers, and standard hand tools, and can be thermoformed for curved light diffuser components. UV-stable and weather-resistant for both interior and exterior applications. Supplied with protective film and available cut to size.

Properties
Light Transmission & Diffusion
- Light transmission: This opal grade transmits approximately 44% of visible light, providing effective illumination diffusion while partially obscuring objects behind the sheet.
- Even light distribution: The translucent white formulation scatters light uniformly across the panel surface, eliminating hotspots and LED dot visibility in backlit applications.
- Warm white appearance: Produces a clean, neutral white when lit and a soft opal tone when unlit.
Strength & Durability
- Impact resistance: Up to 17 times more impact-resistant than glass, with safe fracture characteristics.
- UV stability: Will not yellow or degrade under prolonged UV exposure, maintaining optical performance and appearance.
- Lightweight: Approximately half the weight of glass — particularly advantageous for ceiling panels and suspended lighting installations.
- Weather resistance: Performs well in outdoor environments, suitable for external signage and architectural glazing.
Workability
- Machinable: Can be laser-cut, CNC-routed, drilled, and polished. Suitable for precision fabrication of lightbox components and signage panels.
- Thermoformable: Can be heated and shaped for curved light diffuser panels and formed components.

Usage
Lighting & Light Diffusion
- LED diffuser panels: With 44% light transmission, this grade provides even light distribution across the full sheet surface, eliminating hotspots from individual LEDs. It is widely used in ceiling light panels, lightbox fascias, and architectural lighting installations.
- Illuminated signage: Opal acrylic is the preferred material for backlit sign panels, channel letters, and lightbox displays where uniform brightness and colour consistency are essential.
Glazing & Screening
- Privacy glazing: The translucent white finish allows natural light to pass through while obscuring visibility — making it well suited to bathroom windows, office partitions, and door panels.
- Greenhouse and roofing panels: The 3mm opal acrylic diffuses sunlight to reduce direct heat and glare while maintaining high levels of light transmission for plant growth.
Retail & Display
- Display shelving and product plinths: Opal acrylic shelves and stands create a clean, modern display surface that can be lit from below or behind for dramatic visual impact.
- Point-of-sale and exhibition fixtures: A popular material for branded lightbox units, counter displays, and freestanding illuminated signage.
Architecture & Interiors
- Used for suspended ceilings, wall panels, and decorative screens where diffused light and a clean white aesthetic are required. The 3mm thickness provides adequate rigidity for panel-based installations.
