Product description

A popular choice for heritage and museum display cases, traditional signage, and pub and bar interior features, this brown 5mm coloured acrylic sheet combines visual impact with lasting durability.

Cast from polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), the brown pigment is integral to the material rather than applied as a surface coating. This means the 5mm sheet maintains its colour through cutting, routing, and edge polishing. The UV-stabilised formulation resists yellowing and fading, with both surfaces delivered in a polished gloss finish.

From furniture components, decorative screening, and complementary accents for timber-framed installations, this brown 5mm sheet adapts to the demands of the application. It machines cleanly on laser cutters, CNC routers, and table saws, and thermoforms at controlled temperatures for curved and shaped components. Available in standard stock sizes or cut to your specification.

Properties

Optical & Aesthetic

  • Colour consistency: The brown pigment runs through the full 5mm thickness — cut edges display the same colour as the surface.
  • Surface finish: High-gloss polish on both faces for a professional appearance without post-processing.
  • UV stability: Resistant to yellowing and colour fade from prolonged UV exposure.

Mechanical Properties

  • Impact resistance: Up to 17 times more impact-resistant than glass. Fractures into dull-edged pieces rather than dangerous shards.
  • Weight: Approximately half the weight of equivalent glass — easier to transport, handle, and install.
  • Weather resistance: Performs well outdoors without warping, cracking, or degrading.

Workability

  • Machinable: Can be cut, drilled, routed, and polished. Compatible with laser cutting and CNC routing.
  • Thermoformable: Can be heated and bent for curved components using a strip heater or oven.
  • Bondable: Joins cleanly with solvent-based acrylic adhesives (Tensol, Extru-Fix).

Specification

  • Material: Cast acrylic (PMMA)
  • Thickness: 5mm
  • Fire rating: Self-extinguishing, classified to BS 476

Usage

Architectural & Interior

  • Illuminated panels, lightboxes, and backlit displays use coloured acrylic for even light diffusion with vibrant colour saturation.

Glazing & Screening

  • As a glazing material, the 5mm sheet provides a tinted, shatterproof alternative to glass for motorcycle windscreens, boat windows, and vehicle glazing.
  • Splashback panels in kitchens and bathrooms provide a hygienic, waterproof surface that is straightforward to maintain.

Glazing & Screening

  • A shatterproof, weather-resistant alternative to glass for motorcycle windscreens, boat windows, and vehicle glazing. Up to 17 times more impact-resistant at approximately half the weight.

Craft & Fabrication

  • Compatible with laser cutting, CNC routing, drilling, and thermoforming. Widely used for wedding decor, event signage, cake toppers, and table centrepieces.
