8mm Black Coloured Acrylic
From £0.44
Black 8mm cast acrylic sheet (PMMA) with high-gloss finish on both faces. Up to 17 times stronger than glass and half the weight. UV-stable colour throughout — suited to modern signage, contemporary interiors, and sleek furniture panels.
Product description
Cut it, drill it, laser-engrave it, or thermoform it — this black 8mm coloured acrylic sheet is designed to be worked. From precision-fabricated signage to large-format architectural panels, it adapts to the demands of the project.
Cast from polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), the black pigment is integral to the material rather than applied as a surface coating. This means the 8mm sheet maintains its colour through cutting, routing, and edge polishing. The UV-stabilised formulation resists yellowing and fading, with both surfaces delivered in a polished gloss finish.
From shopfront fascias, exhibition backdrops, and minimalist furniture components, this black 8mm sheet adapts to the demands of the application. It machines cleanly on laser cutters, CNC routers, and table saws, and thermoforms at controlled temperatures for curved and shaped components. Available in standard stock sizes or cut to your specification.
Properties
Optical & Aesthetic Qualities
- Consistent colour pigmentation: The black colour is distributed uniformly throughout the full 8mm sheet thickness, ensuring cut edges display the same colour as the surface face.
- High-gloss surface finish: Polished on both faces for a smooth, professional appearance straight from the sheet — reducing the need for post-processing.
- UV stability: Resistant to yellowing and colour fade caused by prolonged UV exposure, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations.
Strength & Durability
- Impact resistance: Up to 17 times more impact-resistant than standard glass of equivalent thickness. If broken, it fractures into larger, dull-edged pieces rather than dangerous shards.
- Lightweight: Approximately half the weight of glass, making it easier and safer to transport, handle, and install — particularly for large panel applications.
- Weather resistance: Performs well in outdoor environments with strong resistance to rain, wind, and temperature fluctuations without warping or degrading.
Workability
- Machinable: Can be cut, drilled, routed, and polished using standard workshop tools. Compatible with laser cutting and CNC routing for precision fabrication.
- Thermoformable: Can be heated and bent into curved shapes using a strip heater or oven, enabling bespoke formed components.
- Bondable: Bonds effectively using solvent-based acrylic adhesives such as Tensol or Extru-Fix for clean, strong joints.

Usage
Signage & Displays
- Retail signage, exhibition stands, and point-of-sale displays benefit from the bold visual impact of black acrylic. The 8mm thickness provides enough rigidity for freestanding units while remaining easy to fabricate on site.
- Illuminated sign panels and lightbox fascias use coloured acrylic to produce even light diffusion with vibrant colour saturation.
Interior & Exterior Design
- Dark-toned acrylic in black is well suited to modern interior schemes. It works particularly well as kitchen splashbacks, furniture panels, and decorative wall features where a sleek, contemporary aesthetic is required.
- Splashback panels in kitchens and bathrooms offer a hygienic, waterproof surface that is straightforward to clean and maintain.
Glazing & Screening
- As a tinted glazing alternative, black 8mm acrylic reduces visible light transmission while maintaining UV stability — ideal for privacy screens, room dividers, and shopfront glazing.
- Protective screens and sneeze guards in retail, hospitality, and healthcare environments benefit from the material’s impact resistance and optical clarity.
Craft, Hobby & Fabrication
- Laser cutting, CNC routing, and hand fabrication are all achievable with 8mm coloured acrylic. It is widely used for jewellery, awards, trophies, model making, and bespoke gifts.
- Suitable for thermoforming at controlled temperatures, enabling curved and shaped components for specialist applications.
